Artists & Potters
Every piece of Wemyss Ware® is hand made & hand decorated and is therefore unique. Each of our products carry the artist's initials. All of our artists live locally and below, we have included a profile of each of them which also shows a facsimile of their initials.
Designer and Painter, Griselda Hill
Griselda was raised in Cambridge. She has a degree in English and Fine Art from Exeter University, and taught art in London before moving to Fife in 1984. She quickly became interested in ‘Wemyss Ware’, and started the Pottery in 1985. She is delighted that it has become such a sought-after brand, and that the Pottery now has the Trade Mark.
Griselda very much enjoys designing and painting Wemyss Ware. She lives in Ceres with her children.
Painting Supervisor, Elaine Syme
Elaine came to work for Griselda in 1988, straight from Duncan of Jordanstone Art College where she obtained a degree in Illustration.
Being a farmer's wife, Elaine's free time is precious. However, when she is not looking after the family, walking the dog, feeding the hens, or tending the garden, she manages to enjoy cake decoration and home baking.
Elaine attends a local Art class.
Painter, Roseanne Hoy,
Roseanne has worked at the Pottery since 1996.
Although she has no formal art training she started her career as a window dresser.
She has now added jewellery making to her skills and exhibits locally.
Her hobbies include fishing and gardening.
Pottery supervisor, Rena Simpson
Rena studied Drawing & Painting at Edinburgh College of Art from 1981-84. She started work at the Pottery after a career break to have her daughter.
Rena's hobbies include hand building pieces in clay as well as painting and keeping fit. She has been living in a Fife seaside town for the past 14 years.
Rena produces all the bisque ware which is then painted and returned to the pottery where it is glazed and fired.
