The Wemyss Ware® pottery studio
is owned and operated by Griselda Hill. Located in the heart of rural
Since 1985 Griselda has developed a beautiful range of hand made and hand painted, Wemyss Ware®. As with the early Wemyss Ware®, its success is based on the highest quality painting and the beauty of the colours. We use the original under-glaze technique (see The Pottery Process). Because a traditional soft glaze is employed for Wemyss Ware® pottery, items may craze over time. Such crazing is normal and does not affect the lasting quality of the piece. All our products are made on the premises using traditional techniques to produce items that are sure to become pottery collectables.
Throughout our website you will find a variety of example pieces adorned with Wemyss Ware® patterns. Because our pottery is completely hand produced each piece is uniqu
e, and this embodied variation gives a character all of its own to the item we make for you. Thus, it will not be identical to the examples displayed. If, however, you particularly like the piece illustrated please mention this in the ‘Comments’ box and Susan, our Painting Supervisor, will ensure that it is reproduced as closely as possible for you.
Our method of production also enables us to execute uniquely designed commissions, decorated to your own specification, and also limited editions which often come with a Certificate of Authentication signed by Griselda Hill. These are ideal for personalised, corporate or unusual gifts to commemorate special occasions.

In 2002, during the 120th anniversary year of Wemyss Ware®,
In addition to the pottery and painting studio the site also comprises an exhibition and viewing area, which allows visitors to gain a better insight into the background and production of Wemyss Ware®, as well as a shop where a wide selection of the finished pieces are on display. Visitors are also welcome to have a ‘wander’ round our beautiful grounds and walled garden originating from the eighteenth century.
