Artists & Potters

Every piece of Wemyss Ware® is hand made & hand decorated and is therefore unique.  Each of our products carry the artist's initials.  All of our artists live locally and below, we have included a profile of each of them which also shows a facsimile of their initials.


Painter, Roseanne HoyPainter, Roseanne Hoy

Roseanne has worked at the Pottery since 1996.  She is married with one son and three stepdaughters.

Although she has no formal art training she started her career as a window dresser. 

She has now added jewellery making to her skills and exhibits locally. 

Her hobbies include fishing and gardening.






Painter Linda KnowlesPainter, Linda Knowles

Linda joined the Pottery in 1996.  She had previously completed an Art & Design course at Telford College, worked for a theatrical costumier and was a self-employed picture framer.

Her family includes her daughter and son, partner Bob (a violin dealer) and her pets - a border collie, four cats and a selection of rescue battery hens and bantams.

Linda's interests include walking, cycling, bird watching, gardening, reading, yoga, tap dancing and a bit of juggling.  She is a great fan of the radio, particularly The Archers.

Apart from her work at the Pottery Linda has exhibited her paintings and sells them locally.  Recently receiving a commendation in a national newspaper for her portrait of the Queen.


Painter Elaine SymePainter, Elaine Syme

Elaine came to work for Griselda in 1988, straight from Duncan of Jordanstone Art College where she obtained a degree in Illustration.

Being a farmer's wife, Elaine's free time is precious.  However, when she is not looking after the family, walking the dog, feeding the hens, tending the garden, helping set up her local 'Green Group' or painting murals in her daughter's school, she manages to enjoy silk painting, cake decoration, face painting and home baking.


Painting supervisor Susan BentleyPainting Supervisor, Susan Bentley

Susan started as a painter at the Pottery in 1996 and is now the Painting Studio Supervisor.  Prior to working at the Pottery she has done a variety of jobs including illustrator with Fife Ranger Service and as part of a team creating a wildlife display.  She has One daughter.

Susan obtained a HNC in Art & Design at Elmwood College.  She enjoys art & crafts in many forms and has recently renewed her interest in portrait painting.  Susan also enjoys sewing, cooking, walking and birdwatching.




Pottery supervisor Rena SimpsonPottery Supervisor, Rena Simpson

Rena studied Drawing & Painting at Edinburgh College of Art from 1981-84.  She started work at the Pottery after a career break to have her daughter Chloe.

Rena's hobbies include hand building pieces in clay as well as painting and keeping fit.  She and Chloe have been living in a Fife seaside town for the past 14 years.

Rena and her assistant produce all the bisque ware which is then painted and returned to the pottery where it is glazed and fired.
